in 1815, Angus M’Diarmid, a Scottish hunting guide whose first language was Gaelic, wrote a local guidebook, describing in animated and inane English the rugged Highland landscape. As a reference book by an author of questionable English abilities, M’Diarmid’s book shows unintentional humor and linguistic greatness.
