‘Blood will be avenged with blood,’ says the Kanun, an ancient set of laws that has returned to Albania since the collapse of communist rule in 1990. The result is intergenerational blood feuds, in which thousands have been murdered, and thousands more are prisoners in their own homes, the only place they are safe from the families of those killed by their own relatives.
