I was lucky last week to get to one of the three great festivals of Japan. On this day there was a parade, much more solemn than the next day when the Mikoshi carts are hauled around the districts before being returned to the main shrine until next year. Until then the Mikoshi were in the street around the district being cleaned and redecorated for the main event the next day.
